I was thinking of getting some Neofinetia falcata too...I'll have to import from the USA with some dend moniliforme

I'm having trouble finding these on your map:

'Setsu Zan' (this one is yellow banded, tiger type they call it I believe)

'Iyo Nishiki' (This is a very new cultivar from Shikoku Island with yellow-striped leaves. From the picture they look just green so I don't know)

'Suruga Fukurin' (broadly cream-margined leaves.)

I'll be getting a Higashidemiyako as well. I see that they are very common, this striped variegation type is my favorite and I know that I can get it for cheaper than priced in this catalogue, but some people in the states won't ship to me. (I should be happy with just a Higashidemiyako actually, well for a year I guess)

There's no bean type leaf in for this seller and they are also something nice for the collection.

I'm still deciding whether to order because it will not be cheap....

Unfortunately it's the only way to get them that I am aware of. I was able to get a dend moniliforme cultivar from someone in Toronto, but I think I ticked that vendor off and there is no way he is going to tell me about the fuukiran in his collection which I'm assuming does exist. If he imported dend. moniliforme, he must have imported fuukiran and he does know all about this culture based on ethnic background. I placed so many orders from him and I wish he was more open like other vendors. (he might have lost me as a return customer ...too bad)

Another vendor sold me a variegated cymbidum and phal and told me about two other ones he got by chance, including a paph and cattleya type. I'm not gonna ask about buying them (though the paph would be great!) because I assume he'll be keeping them based on his quick wording and parting in the email(or maybe he was busy), and I'm just gonna assume they're too small for division. I still feel he is the best vendor here, but he's not into fuukiran, but has a nice chinese cymbidium collection as an addition to the paphs and other orchids

Smartie, remember that (as jtlgh said) his translations are only partial translations and is not an accounting of the entire chart. They are also not entirely in linear order within each "row" (you need to look at the kanji and match them up in the Meikan) and the "big guns" have been mixed in with the ones in the rows proper. (uhh, jtlgh, there are also some mis-translated ones...) The chart jtlgh shows is called a Fuukiran Meikan, published each year by the All Nippon (Japan) Fuukiran Society. It shows plants accepted as 'named varieties' and are ranked using various factors (plant/leaf/flower characteristics, popularity, price, rarity, etc). Not all known named varieties are accepted onto the Meikan. The ones in the big rectangular boxes with the gold background are the really big guns.

If you look at the 2005 Meikan that Quing posted, this is in the second-from-the-bottom row (jtlgh's "5th row upper", if you will), 4th to the right of the center-bottom gold rectangle (Mangetsu). Setsuzan = snow mountain.

This is in the same row as Setsuzan, the 6th one (counting leftwards) from the bottom-right gold rectangle (Maizuru).

The 2007 (Heisei 19th year) Meikan has been published. (I have a copy).
