Phal. Kuntrarti Rarashati??

Ohhhh the burn. Last night at the SE Flower Show I had my eye on a beautiful Phal Kuntrarti Rarashati (equestris x venosa) full of buds!

As my husband and I were standing in front of the vendors table trying to decide which other orchids we wanted to buy with it a woman walked up behind us, picked up my coveted item---and bought it!

I was so bummed out I didn't even buy anything! My husband just laughed (apparently seeing more humor in the situation than I did).

Of course a thing I 'would have liked to have' has now turned into something I HAVE TO HAVE---only because I couldn't have it!

I have read this cross is supposed to produce a lot of keikis---just wondering if any of you have it or have any keikis you would be willing to sell. Figured I'd check here first before spending tons of $$$ somewhere else.

Cindy, I don't but I have had the same experience. I now hold the plant that I am interested in while I decide on others at the booth.

That does indeed suck...and I must admit that I chuckled a little bit, not directly at your misfortune, but at the fact that this would also be something very likely to happen to me. I can commiserate.

Hope you find a better plant than the one that was swiped out from under you!

Bummer, I have had the same experience, and now do as advised and pick up and hold the plant till I make up my mind. I am also not above stopping the person and saying - Sorry that one is sold!!!

Well---just to update this post---I found a vendor who sells them and I finally got my little Phal Kuntrarti Rarashati. I met him at an orchid show in Alabama where he had a booth (because I'm so cheap I didn't want to pay for shipping ) and because I ended up getting a couple of plants from him he was nice enough to give me this one for next to nothing....

(Good because the plant I missed at that other flower show had at least 10 leaves and 5 or 6 spikes on it for the same price) But at least this way when mine gets that big I can have the satisfaction of knowing I actually grew it!

I also had to chuckle at your situation, Cindy. For as a few other folks have mentioned "been there, done that". Most recently was yesterday, in fact. I had taken a rather long drive out to a vender who is closing up shop. A husband and wife team, they are moving up north as I recall. {Can't remember if they intend to eventually reopen once they get settle up north or if this was "it".} Any way they were having a 50% off sale. Truth be told they didn't have a lot that tempted me. Much of what they had was already thoroughly picked over, other plants were simply WAY to big, or just too run of the mill for me to want [like the white phals they still had so many of]. But they did have a couple mounted Den aggregatums that I was considering. However, I decided to look over all the other plants first. You can guess what happened ... someone else snapped them up.

Cin, I love your phal Kuntrarti Rarashati. It's a fantastic colour, I think it was one of the first I put in my little notebook which despite being a really immature Hello Kitty notebook, is developing it's own orchid wishlist personality.... it just keeps on growing.

Oh dear, this has happened to me so many times. I either pick the plants up now, or I hide them somewhere really hard to reach!
