    Default Paphiopedilum purpuratum

I took this little beauty to an orchid society meeting and put it in the Paph "species" class only to be beaten by a Paph Leeanum. I was most upset that a hybrid won the species class but well... one can't expect all judges to know the differences, so I just took it in the chin...

well a couple of days ago, I took this little beauty to another local society show that we do at a Return Services Club for Anzac Day. Lo and behold, it won the best of any Paph! Woo hooo!!!!

So I would like to introduce to you -

    Paph purpuratum 'Second Chance'

Oh, that's lovely! HOW could they have a hybrid win a species class?

    Beautiful blooms there

Leeanum does not deserve the best of the species class...lol what were they thinking

    Nice one, Tim-O!

Glad to see you whooped some belated butt with your looker!

I've been stirring up mischief here in NY, but am headed back home tomorrow morning (a five hour trip). Have lots of pics of friends and amazing show orchids. And a few stow-aways of my own (ok, a few more than a few...but I did talk...er, ah encourage...Qing into adding a few more to her own excellent collection! It was a rewarding, but exhausting day!

Signing off from the Big Apple! (Jason et al, sorry we missed you - I was looking forward to saying hi!)

That's a fantastic flower - i really like the recurving nature of the petals. Glad that you got the recognition that it deserved.

And quite frankly - if the judges don't know the difference between a species and a hybrid - then quite possibly they shouldn't be judging.
