Your orchids look fantastic, I hope mine thrive like yours because I've switched to s/h last month and I was wondering...how long did it take to get them accustomed to the new medium? I've seen some reaction at first but now some old roots look brownish, although the plants look better (shinier leaves, more upright crowns).

If the plants have new root growth(very important !) you see immediate results ..within 2-3 weeks. It is normal for some of the old roots to die ..they flush out when you water. The yellow & red phal in the far right of the picture has thrown a second spike...I was quite amazed that the buds/blooms didn't die when I switched them to SH...that convinced me that phals love hydroton !

Greg - those are incredible! Probably the most blooms I have ever seen on a Miltonia that size. WOW! Bravo!

Those Milts are fab - I wouldn't be surprised if you inspired quite a few people on the forum who are currently of the opinion that they are all evil and cannot be grown whatsoever!

I love those pots, too. I really need to find a good place locally that sells some nice pots for decent prices. My cats find it way too easy to knock my plastic pots over.

Those look like pots that can be found at the big box stores for 10-15 dollars.
