You have a lovely phalaenopsis orchid - a phal for short. It looks lovely, and will definitely need a few friends to keep it company! You do need to repot it, as soon as convenient, something you should do whenever you get a new plant, at least check the medium and the roots. As long as it does not get direct sun in that window it should be fine. Phals do not like direct sun, nor really strong light.

I'm very pleased with it. there were (are) loads there !! had trouble choosing I must admit !! Ii's in a plastic container inside that ceramic one. the root system is very well established, although they are a little green. I'm thinking that they can photosynthisize at times as they grow arial roots but please correct me if I'm wrong ! I'm thinking that this might be associated with the flowering period when the plant requires all the energy it can get, maybe ??

five Flowers are open, and sixteen are rearing to go.

By the way, Is that an Irish Accent to your sig?

Green roots are GOOD! You want your phal to have green roots. And arial root are a common phal trait. Although, if it gets too many that is a sign of a needing a repot. You should at least stick your little finger down into the media and see if it feels firm or soft. If soft, it is rotting and you should give it new media. If firm, then enjoy you lovely blooms.

Oh, and it's Scottish, MacPhearson - it is the family motto - "Touch not the cat but a-gloved" the family crest sports a Scottish Wild Cat.

Nice start! But you must be aware that an orchid obsession is very likely! One is never enough, and before you know it you are in the blissful state of an obsession! Then you will have to buy countless other varieties! One is never enough! Judi

Hi again, the bark is fairly firm should be Ok for a while, I think lol . those arial roots appear very dead to me... , that's OK though as the rest of the root system seems to be thriving (Lucky me lol).. Thanks for the encouragement,
    John

What a beautiful start in Orchid World!!!
By the way my advice - prepare the place for the next one...
If you have one Orchid and you like it really - you got already "Orchiditis" virus.
