That would be cool. But given the genetic variations even within the same species, we will probably need to carry it on a backpack or a cart since it will need to house tons of image files lol.We need something like the 'Poke-dex'

I don't know.. the size of the removable MicroSD chip in my phone is only about 0.75" x 0.33" or smaller. And that's a 512MB chip. If I'd wanted to spend more, I could have gone to 1G.
Maybe it scans it, sends a message back to the main server with all the data stored, and retreives the info that way?![]()
LOL! There's a huge difference between having the idea and actually knowing ANYTHING about how to even begin to make it reality.![]()
My dad always tells me that "If I can dream it, I can make it happen." Maybe you just need to dream a bit bigger and who knows one day we all might carry on our belt next to our mobile phone and pager a 'Sara Orchid Scanner'. Hehehehehe
Dream big! Every idea starts with a want or a need. You just have to find a way to take it to the next level. Just think where we would be if the person who first crossed an orchid to create a hybrid never followed through on that dream because s/he did not know the next step.
Maybe instead of a scanned image, the 'Sara Orchid Scanner' actually samples the DNA of the plant and uses that to identify the orchid and its blooms, etc... The possibilities are endless and the possible rewards, unending.

.... Very True .... I'll keep this idea in mind.![]()
Something like an insulin checker thing that the diabetics use? Have a little pick come out, poke the plant and bammo....all the info. Course then we wouldn't have our affordable little Noids to fawn over then would we? Hmm... Guess I'll be happy not knowing, besides I usually give them pet names anyways. lol Spot, Big Yellow and Pretty girl are a few of my fav's.

Well, given the limited availability of things like 'facial recognition' software (if there were a bloom scanner involved) and the fact that for the DNA sampling aspect you'd have to have a rather large orchid DNA database already established... and that this would require all newly registered crosses to be sampled as well.. I'm thinking not everyone would really want one, so demand would be fairly limited, as well... So the price would probably be fairly high... and that's just to be able to cover the R&D! Not to mention that someone would probably require a monthly subscription to have access to the most updated info from AOS.... And then there are the distribution costs.... advertising....
Holy cow could I get rich off this if I had the ability to get it off the ground.
BD, you're creating a monster, here!!!![]()
Sara, I'll take one!!I think those of us with slight OCD tendencies (ha ha, I have orchid spreadsheets to track when things bloom
) would LOVE to have proper names for those NOIDS! You guys are on the right track...
