Nope. Most of them I've seen are in 4" pots in bark. Some of the ascocenda bag babies are bare root.

In some big box stores, they sell orchids in clear plastic bags with a very generic type label on the bag. If you are lucky enough, they have a tag with the exact plant name (most of them do). You buy them in a bag, hence "bag baby"

I OBVIOUSLY shop in the wrong stores -- I haven't ever seen anything like the plants you've posted photos of at ANY big box stores.

They are a great opportunity to get quality plants you'd otherwise have a hard time finding. I hope to find a nice 'Laura Bush' this way someday. Hope Hope...

Oh I love bag babies...They're just so cute and new, and it feels like I'm out shopping for accessories when I buy them! lol I have a very hard time passing bag babies up and the "never know what you're gonna get" factor makes them all the more appealing to me! My weakness, definitely...

The pictures above are the labels with a net or plastic bag below it containing the orchid. Sorry, I did not take a picture of it in the bag, and attached. Too excited to get it out and in a pot. Look these over carefully. It is usually pretty easy to see the plant and the roots. Normally there are a few of each type. Look for a healthy one with a tag. It will make your life so much easier. I have a couple that did not have tags, and it took some effort to find the name, or something close to it, due to the fact that there is no specific bloom, and I am still not sure because what if the label is gone. The Hawaiian Passion was a suggestion of the local Orchid Assoc. Pres. who happened to be standing there buying some new chids at the time. She said they are compact, grow well in the home, and have a great citrus smell. Be careful with these things. The plants look fine, and the prices are usually good, between $5.00 and $14.00 from what I have seen, but I think my kids and starting to get jealous of my chids. Plans for the weekend are to prune my live oak, which is about 70 years old, so that some of the plants that are under there can get more afternoon sun. I have chids, bromeliads and a couple of plumerias.

Something I put together in Excel, took pictures with digital camera set to email format, then did copy and paste in paint. Being in IT for the last 15 years, everything I do is on PC. I have a spreadsheet that I created, and those are only some of the cells in it. It does print well on 8.5X14 Legal Sheets set to landscape. PM Email address, if you have Excel 2003 or later, it should work fine.

I can honestly say that I have not been please with the orchids that I have seen in nurseries in the area. Need to find a local grower. The nurseries carry them, but I do not think they like them, or take the time to care for them properly. I have seen better plants in the large box stores than in the reputable nurseries in the area.
