Anyone have an idea what to do with this kind of furry carpet on the top of my paph medium? I tried removing the top part of the medium last week but as you can see the magic carpet returned.

Looks like moss from high humidity and wet . Let it dry a bit if that does not kill it mixed Physan will or 70% peroxide can cut it with 1/2 water altho. I have used it full strength . I think it grows from spores if all else fails unpot wash roots repot into new mix . Gin
As long as the pot drains, it should not be a problem. You just want to make sure your orchid can still get the water it needs.

I removed one yellow leaf which I thought was because of normal ageing of the plant now a few more are turning lighter than I would like. Do you think it has to do with this fuzzy stuff?
I'm of the school that moss/algae is good as it helps with gas exchange at the root level. I'd leave it alone--you should see some of my Hydroponic pots!
I think the yellowing is just natural leaf death at this point..
HOWEVER!!!
White hairy mold/fungus is not good...that calls for a repotting...
I like moss on top of my potting media. Some of my phrags have lots of green carpetSome say it has antifungal properties too, and others say it clogs of gas exchange to the roots...
