Actually, the supermarkets get about a 10% margin. But they get to return any unsold plants for credit. The young plants, about a year from blooming, are ususally bought from asia for say, a buck a piece plus shipping. Then the vendor spends only 6 mo to a year to finish the plant. The US grower gets a 'vendors choice' selection of plants from asia - no guarantee of names, crosses, etc.
