With the exception of cymbidiums, I have not had much luck with orchids that prefer to spike during the coldest months. They always end up being messed up one way or the other.
Here are some pictures of those that made it, although not entirely unscathed.
Epc. Siam Jade AM/CST
All but one flower blasted - you can see the naked spike on the lower right. The flower buds did not like being in the greenhouse, they did not like being inside the house either. If it keeps this up next season, it will be on its way to the S.T.O.P. box
Also, anyone know what award body is CST?
NOID oncidium alliance orchid.
This was a pretty one given to me by Katie (Desertgal).
It spike originally had 8 lateral branches but before all the buds could open, the spike dried up all the way down, only sparing the lowest lateral branch.
The flowers are quite large. From the very top of the flower all the way down to the bottom it measured a bit over 2 inches.
Close up of the flowers
One of my few cymbidiums with a proper ID tag:
Cym. (Via Ireland 'Delightful' x La Costa Elf 'White Princess' ) 'Winter Mist'
The breeder must have gone to town with crossing this one
It did not have as many flowers compared to when I originally bought it, but the flowers this time are much bigger than last season.
One of the drawbacks of a healthy cymbdium. It needs its own apartment
I need to divide this one once the weather warms up or I will end up buying a forklift.
