Phal Spike-repotting question

I would first like to say that this is a great forum and in the little time since I have joined this group, I've learned so much so thank you.

I noticed that my first Phal(bought it last year in bloom) was very untidy in its pot and bending sideways with most of it roots outside the media, so I decided to re-pot it one month ago so I followed the advice from this forum, except for one thing I know that I should not have done it, but I re-potted in the same bark media, since I could not find any suppliers in my area. I washed it many times and even took out parts of the media that I didnt like. Anyways, I finally found a supplier who will ship coconut husks which I should receive in a couple of days. Anyways, my question is, can I re-pot now again in new media, knowing that a spike already started growing two weeks after re-potting?(sorry close up pictures of spike are not so clear)

I am very happy that there is a spike now and I do not want to ruin any chance of it blooming for me this year if I re-pot it again. So, what do you guys think?

My experience with phals is not very extensive but are you sure that's a spike, it looks a little too green to me? The media doesn't look too bad. I don't know what the reason was for repotting besides checking the root system after you got it and the untidyness. I'd just keep it in this media unless it's really in bad shape. I've had roots starting to pop up right after repotting and that's what I suspect is happening now. Anyway, the plant looks healthy to me. I'm sure other members have better advice for you than me though.

Thanks Richard for your reply. I am pretty sure it is a spike, I've had new roots coming out previously and they were all bigger and with a round tip. This new growth is smaller and is not round. From the pic you cannot see but it has two pointy parts to the tip and this is why I think that it is a spike. Maybe thats what I am hoping for anyways

Wait until the spike develops and blooms. After the blooms fade, then repot in the new media. I agree with Phyrex, from here the media does not look too bad, so it can wait a little longer.

I agree with the recommendations to leave it alone for now. The media in the photo looks ok and you know the roots are ok. If that is a spike, you can repot again after the blooms are done. I am glad you are enjoying our community. I am glad you are here.
