cattleya from bare root

I bought 6 bare root cattleya from the international orchid fair last march. I planted it on clay pots with orchid bark, charcoal and perlite. its always above 70's here in southern california. its growing new roots now but how frequent do I water it. thanks for any info in advance

Hi Scarlet,

Water after they dry out. Catts like to dry out between watering. The medium should be dry when it is time to water. We water ours about once a week in the winter and keep them under constant air movement.

thanks for the info i appreciate that. Actually, I water them more often than when it was colder but I know that they don't like to be soaked. They are producing more green roots this time. One of them even flowered "blc. beauty girl C.U. kova. its just opening right now but whe I get a picture I will post it. and since I use a medium that dries up so easily I water them generously. plus the pot is a clay orchid pot. I just hope that I will be able to survive them since this is my first time to grow them from bare root and that they came in from vietnam so the roots was really wilted when I bought them. I'll keep you posted on how they are. thanks again
