Yup you get more flowers on the same plant. But its kinda hard to move it around when you need 2 people to carry it like this monster .


And its game over when the roots have grasped that 50 pound log its sitting on.

It also becomes a challenge finding a good spot for it in the greenhouse without hogging up serious real estate.

I will keep a couple to grow as specimens, but the rest will be divided into manageable sizes as they grow.

Wonderful! Am quietly envious over here. I shall just have to indugle myself with another trip to Kew or Wisley to lose myself in their glasshouses and pretend that they are mine!

If I live near Kew I probably would not need a greenhouse at all. I'll just go there everyday until they politely kick me out.

Hi John, nice set up (drool, drool). Is that spanish moss hanging in your greenhouse? Is it for decoration (I love the stuff) or does it have a specific purpose? I love those heaters, too, very safe in a damp area. Nice place!

The spanish moss is mostly for decoration, although the vandas seem to love having them draped over their roots. Perhaps they can act as small-scale moisture batteries and give the vandas some extra humidity.

The heater is great. I have gone through three different kinds of heaters and this one works the best for me. It was able to keep temperatures stable at night during winter. 45F-50F is the magic range for me. I try not to get the GH colder than 45F at night, and try not to have the heater get the GH warmer than 50F.
Anything over 50F at night is just a waste and some of the orchids actually need cool nights.

This one also appears to be more "splash friendly" compared to other heaters - although I DO NOT encourage getting electric heaters wet (I remove it from the GH when I water).

The past heaters I used, one failed to keep the temperature above 40F which made it rather useless.
The other heater failed to shut-off when the desired temperature is reached. Resulting in the GH autovents to open (calibrated to open around 70) and vent warm air while the heater continues to run.

The heaters added about $30.00 to my monthly electric bill this winter, but I'll take that over losing the orchids to frost again.

Hey I grow a pineapple plant too... rooting the top was one of my most exciting horticultural experiments!...

Wow. Looking at the greenhouse pictures from just a few months ago, I cant believe how empty (and clean!) it looked lol.

I only purchased a handful of plants between then and now but the greenhouse is almost full. It is mostly due to some fast growers that I had to divide.
I also purchased some compots some time ago and the plants are beginning to take off.

Before you know it I might need a machete just to navigate my greenhouse
