There is a lot of water here , pond , and a large chicken water container , I have one of the fuzzy critters that I call the watch dog , if a hawk or other is close to the chicken area it has a fit . It has hung out for a couple of years , eats the chicken grain, and pellets . knows a good thing . Guess they are not all bad lolol ... Gin

Connie, not to dispute you, but I have a 20 foot man made creek that flows into a 18 foot x 14 foot koi pond! Those rascals have plenty of water only 5 feet from where they've chewed my nodosa. As Pavel said, mine just chew the tops off and leave the roots! It does seem more common in the Spring than any other time of year. My guess is some orchids have a fruity smell that attracts them? (Although this doesn't explain my japanese maples that have been chewed...) The Vicks rubs idea? Hummm. Sounds interesting!
