Becky, thanks for the info! I won't worry about winter rest and will water my den. as normal, making sure it is dry first. It does have a tag in the pot titled "red lip." It had finished flowering before my friend could get it to me, so I don't really know what it will look like in bloom other than the flowers are white and purple or white and red. It is potted around a large piece of bark -- should I just leave it like that or repot now? We have a local orchid society that is active, so I am going to join that. Tomorrow, I plan to go to a local nursery that sells orchids and plan to come home with a phal. :-D

Only one? You cpuld probably get a cattleya, too. Or three.

Nah, I held it down to one, but plan to acquire some more next month. There is an orchid nursery in a nearby town, so a friend and I plan to visit. Since I am such a newbie, I am not yet comfortable with potting bare root plants acquired through the mail.

Welcome. I have to say the title of your post in combination with your "name" cracked me up--how often do you see "murderer" and serenity applied to the same person.

Good luck with that "not 100" plan. If you are already headed to a vendor--oh boy--you are in serious trouble. When you walk into that greenhouse--hold onto your wallet.

Becky, the tag just says "red lip" and the flowers are white marked with either purple or red. I never got to see it in bloom. I have decided that this weekend I am going to repot it whether it likes it or not. I HATE that large piece of bark that it is potted with, the reason being that I have to take the whole thing out of its pot to check to see if it needs watering. I now also have two phals, so am up to three orchids. When I brought the latest one home, my dh said, "but, where are you going to PUT it"? :-D

Sadie, I didn't even think about the non-correlation between serenity and murderess. LOL We are going to the nursery this Thursday I am seriously worried about the number of plants I will bring home. I am hoping that I can hold down my collection to about a dozen. I am up to three right now.....
