not a dumb question at all - a Floofly or floofie is simply a 'frilly' cattleya bloom.

Connie - how is this bud doing?!?!?! Did it open yet?
No the bud didnt make it....but fortunately I have two others that made it okay. I don't know what happened. I had sprayed the water out of the sheath after a watering and the next day there was this white stuff all over it and the next day it started rotting. I have NO idea what happened to that one. Sigh....still waiting for the floofies to do something. My others, esp. the brassavola and oncid's are going really well.

My impression of "floofie" is similiar to BD's. It means something that's big, frilly, frequently gaudy and "over the top". This usually applys to cattleyas since they're the ones with the huge flowers and come in colors that shout "Hey, look at me!" I suppose that it could apply to a large inflorescence of small frilly flowers in eye-catching colors as with some cymbidiums. Nice to be back.
