Maxillaria sanguinea

max tenuifolia and I am growing it with the mini-catts. It has lots of new growth, just no bloom spikes yet. I have only had it since last May. I got it in bloom them. It gets fed along with all the others and looks healthy. I just expected it to spike by now.

well, it was in bloom last May and may bloom this May for you. tenuifolia is not the easiest Max to get to bloom. I own 3 of them. Only one has bloomed consistently for me.

Edit I just checked, mine blooms mid to late May

I have complained enough on the forum about my Max Tenuifolia growing and becoming quite big without ever flowering ... I won't go there again ...

Everytime I see mine, I think of the one that Cin has. It is a monster of a plant and blooms so beautifully for her. I sure hope mine blooms in May!

Well, I never got Max tenuifolia to bloom for me, either, although it certainly grew well in the time I had it. (This was before I sold it to someone else to try her hand at it!) One of the vendors at our just past show & I got into a discussion and he claimed it's easy to get to bloom if you put it outside for the summer--really full sun is what he recommended. He said you had to get the foliage to practically turn red, but then it should bloom when you brought it in. I'm not offering this as something that's worked for me, but it might be worth trying for someone with the right outdoor area. As far as I'm concerned, it's a tres difficult plant to bloom.

Anyhow, I'm digressing with the above. Get back on topic, Rob! <slaps self> I, too, admire Ron's sanguinea!

Well I did just that last summer, not enough light, I thought so I gradually and slowly got it used to the outside sun .... the leaves turned almost yellow, the tips of the leaves burned and it didn't bloom .... Hopeless, I am telling you ...

hehehehe!!! My Maxillaria tenuifolia finally bloomed! I did not even see the bud it happened so fast. Only one bloom, but it is a small plant. There is hope!
