I know there are several reasons for yellow leaves, but what are the most common?

    Thanks!
It depends. If the yellowing leaves appear dry and starts shrivelling, I let it drop on its own. But if it appear watery and mushy inside, I will cut it off pronto and treat the wound with fungicide and hope for the best.

I wish I have a better answer for your second question. But aside from old age, the other reasons are also mystery to me. Like Lisa, I also lost a phal whose leaves turn yellow and spread quickly. Good luck.

No new info here, just agreeing:

    Mushy and yellow: cut, cauterize/cinnamonize.

Drying and yellow: wait for it to fall.

I, of course, despite what I have just said, tug on the brown and browning leaves and pull off all the dead stuff from around the pseudobulbs. But then again, I pick at my scabs, so that tells you how good an idea following my example might be.
