There are tiny droplets of a sticky sugary (I tasted it) liquid on the inflorescence. I think that is what attracts the ants. I like having ants (the non biting black ones) they are a good indicator of correct humidity and drainage in the pots.

what i havent figured out yet, in the purple variety there is some with a yellow column while others are more white, any idea?

I think its got to do with the age of the flower, when they open up the column is yellow, I think when they age it fades to white.

very nice flowers. BTW, I noticed that you have ants on them too! I see that my spath secretes some sticky substance that attracts the ants as well. Does any one know what/why the spath is doing?

Beauties!!!! I just ordered one white (this will be my first one) together with a few more to keep company of one Coelogyne... (yep, it was only going to be the Coelogyne, but I end up ordering 8 or 9...)
I want to get different colors and plant them outside!!!

Margo I am sure they will love Florida weather ! And grow nicely in the ground. May be use a fine seedling mix for their bed. And they love plenty of manure. But also be careful, they can become an invasive specie.
