New orchid- What do I do with these roots

Also; are those pots glazed? When you repot, choose either a plastic or clay pot. The clay helps if you overwater, or plastic if you tend to underwater. Your phals look great...they just like to be repotted when the wood medium or spagnum moss breaks down, smells bad or gets infested with bugs. And when in flower, you shouln't repot unless it's an emergency.

I wouldn't repot them right now. They look OK. And you can grow Phals in spaghnum as long as you dont overwater. You want the moss to become almost dry before watering again. However, if you are in a location where the temp is cool, especially at night, you may want to repot in bark so it will dry faster. It is likely to get a fungal or bacterial infection if the plant stays too damp and too cool. Those are my thoughts. Good luck with it. The plant looks great and Phals are some of the easiest to grow.

I'm having the same problem. Lots of roots but my plant is very healthy!

That is not a problem. It is a good thing. Phals will always send out air roots. That is just what they do. It does not suggest any problems.

One thing for sure - just about everyone here that has grown phals for a while has their own mix. After you have grown them for a while you will find what works best for you. Having said that, here is my mix: one part coarse perlite, one part medium charcoal, one part New Zealand sphagnum moss, and 4 parts medium bark. I also use styrofoam peanuts in the bottom 1/3 of the pot. The general idea is to have a media that will keep a bit of moisture (hence the moss) while allowing air to enter the medium. The bark is essential for the roots to adhere to. The charcoal ensures that the mix will stay open and will absorb excess chemicals. Perlite will also keep the mix open and also retains some water. I have witnessed each of those as the ONLY element used. I have seen ground tire chunks, lava rock, mounted, hydrophonic. The list is almost endless.
