Do we need to fertilize wild orchids

Lol, i think john answered the original question well enough.

Without knowing the circumstances, plants may or may not survive after a fall from a tree. Leaves or other media may soon cover the roots, maintaining the survival of the plant. You never really know. The general statement is that we should be really careful and think about what were doing first. None of us know the scenario of the orchid Rain had taken so we cant really jump to conclusions about what happened and what should have been done. The problem that rests with this is that everyone did the same thing...eventually there wouldn't be anymore left to pick.

Unless it was loggers then you can say "goodbye little orchid, time to erect a palm oil farm" then i would say take the whole stock cause you cant battle a monster.

Coming back to the original question about fertilizers: raindeeapk4u it is best to start fertilization when the natural growth period of the orchid starts in the wild, that way it acclimatises to the new environment better. For that you haven to research about your orchids well. Just saying wild orchids doesn't help. You have to know each and every details, Terrestrial orchids will have significantly different fertilizer and water needs than epiphytic orchids. Please let us know which orchids you have and we can help you better.

1) The fertilizer specifications boil down to same as for any cultivated orchid weekly and weakly (100 ppm of NPK applied once a week or 50 ppm twice per week)

2) Only good quality water soluble fertilizer with very low urea content.

3) Micronutrients added

4) and preferably soft water.
