Jason, I think you are correct that Mendenhall is the name used by Carter & Holmes.
Phrag schlimii 'Wilcox' is actually a hybrid (Phrag Cardinale) and not the true species, definitely fooled the judges.

Apparently fooled them twice, if it really was awarded as schlimii both times. At least they didn't award them as caudatums.![]()

Yes, I think Mendenhall is a Carter and Holmes variety - but was told that Phal. mini mark Holm was the same thing (also used by them? Holmes?) Anyway, just a curiousity, but it is confusing, giving the same plant two similar names.

People have asked for a picture of the whole plant. This picture was taken last summer, so it actually has grown some more with a total 4 spikes. It is a large plant much larger than the parent papilio.
