good idea, but here they do that all the time it gets annoying.....i just drain the pots (both of them) then put the plastic back in the ceramic....as it was. i just remember to water little and often. all to their own a spose...atleast that way you dont need to worry about them sitting in water!

We should be so lucky to have roadside stands selling orchids!!! Too dry in summer, and way too cold in winter for anyone to sell roadside here. The really big one cost way too much at 31, price jacked up for valentines and all, and pay for the pretty pot it was in too. Next month I can get them on clearance (or out of the trash behind the store) with no flowers on them.

A name would be cool for this one. Stores here don't seem to care aand most are unlabeled. Seems as if the older and larger the plant gets, the bigger the flowers it produces. This one is about 3 times the size of others I got, and of course the blooms are 4 times as big. At least I'm hoping its not some strange fertilizer the nursery put on it just to make a good show for a quick sale.

I really like that one too! The lip is actually a dusky red/orange color, almost rust collored. So muted and delacately beautiful. My id tag says 'lipstick' untill I find a real name for it.

In principle flower size does not increase with plant size, it is the cross or variety that determines the size, but you will get nicer flowers with more substance on a healthy plant compared to a neglected one.

    Cheers

This particular white phal I have seen as a much smaller plant and the blooms are only about an inch and a half. This is why I was thinking that the older the plant, the larger its blooms can be. This does occur in other types of flowers and trees, mostly due to the health and availability of nutrients. The older the plant, the better established and thus the better ability to reproduce: larger fruits and flowers.
Wasn't really counting on the more colorfull ones attaining this size, I have only seen the plain white this large.
