Yew Sung..you should! I would be more than happy to take you for a nice cuppa Ipoh White Coffee and pluck your brains for advice and info on orchids and yes, the trip to the nursery! Be warned though, the nursery has nice species orchids but is rather pricey usually. Its not often you get bargains like I did yest!

PS: Ive decided to visit the ATM and go back and buy the Gigantea..will post a pic and you guys can tell me if it was worth it

I will one of these days.BTW I have a very good friend in Ipoh - also 'kaki' orchid especially species. Is that gigantea in bloom? Pl post picture when you get it.

Its even worse for me jo, there are only about 6 in our whole country, and they all seem to be on the coast! thats about 3 hrs away!

OH really? I dont know all the orchid enthusiasts in Ipoh as Im quite new to the scene but would be glad to meet him too one day! I might know him already! Yew Sung, the Gigantea is not in bloom and I think it might be a little while longer..its quite big already as its biggest leaf is probably 7-8inches long and about 4 inches wide at its widest point. I keep hearing that its not easy to get it to bloom despite the fact that I read its a lowland species. After hearing that I was a little discouraged and I didnt buy it..any advice Yew Sung? I did manage to trade 1 of my barbatums for a phal venosa..my friend had 3 plants..the cheeky bugger tried to trade me his smallest and weakest plant! I wasnt having that at all! So i took the middle plant which had new roots.

The gigantea I saw were at a vendor's in the Cameron. The smallest with 1 ft long leaves was priced at MYR 399. The largest was a huge jungle-collected plant with 3 pairs of leaves, the biggest of which was 2 ft long by 8 in wide. It had a 2 ft long spike with about 20 flowers. The price, MYR 1,800.

Since Zainal has bloomed his in Melaka, it can't be that difficult in Ipoh. BTW the ones I saw were all mounted on fern root slabs.

Yew Sung, I couldnt "tahan" (resist in Malay), I bought the Gigantea and remounted it on a fern root slab..now its just abt waiting, watering, fertilising and waiting. RM90 +10 for the fern root...I reckon its a pretty good buy.
