As a Texan that had to make 3 trips to the "frozen north) (Chicago, Minneapolis, and a couple of spots in Michigan) earlier this year, give me heat any day over freezing to death.
Betty, have fun at the show!!!

Well, Al, we got back around 3:30 just in time to feed the cat. I bought one of each of the following, ALL encyclias: prisamtocarpa , phoenicea, bractescens, boricana, randi, AND an awarded ceratistes named "Luke" AM/AOS these plants are my 72nd birthday gift to me from my husband. Thanks, Kathi...We had a wonderful time! Betty
Wow Betty what a haul! I have gotten to know Encyclia's well enough to picture their flowers in my mind. Great choices And these are your Birthday present you say? If its not today I still want to wish you the best of Birthdays. Tell me does your husband like orchids?, or is he just a nice guy who wants to make you happy. That ceratistes sounds interesting to. The name even sounds like there's orchid blooms attached to it that are beautiful. Wish I could of been there. Please post pictures when you get a chance. Again, Happy Birthday!!! AL

Actually Al, they were an early birthday gift...because the AOS show was this weekend. My birthday is June first. But thanks...I appreciate the birthday wishes. You can "Google" the encyclia ceratistes...click on images to see what it looks like. It is not an easy orchid to find...and the awarded one is harder to find. It is my favorite orchid...it has the most delightful fragrance. One plant can make a large room smell good in five minutes. Yes, my husband does like orchids, and often helps fertilize & water them. The ceratistes is not in bloom at the moment...however we shall see what the Summer brings...Betty
Sounds like a nice haul, Betty...congrats!
Here are the pictures of the monster spikes in bloom. This is the biggest schomburgkia I think i've ever seen.
