How long does it take usually from the time a sheath forms to the time a bloom comes out? I bought a BLC. Chia lin"new city" in june it had two sheath and the plant has grown since three more new pseudobulbs with sheaths but has no blooms yet. Any idea how long I have to wait?

That's a beautiful purpurata. A tipo form. I don't think it is a cindarosa form. The color of the lip of cindarosa is deeper and more widely spread on the outer face of the lip.

@ Gabriela : The time between the apparition of the sheath and the development of buds depends of the parentage of your hybrid.
Some monofoliate Cats species develop their buds when the new pseudobulb is growing or as soon as the new PB is mature (gaskelliana, warneri, dowiana...).
Other monofoliate Cats species need a rest of several months (trianae, percivaliana, shroederae, mossiae...). Laelia from the crispae section (purpurata, crispa, tenebrosa...) which are now Cattleya, and Guarianthe (skinneri, aurantiaca...) do the same. Most often the sheath remains green, sometimes it dries (Guarianthe for example).

Thanks for this great information; I have a Cattleya purpurata Schusteriana with five new pseudos and am waiting for spikes.
