Dendrobium polytrichum

Strange looking Dendrobium. Pretty flower though.

Ntgerald, last time I went home to Pinas for a visit, I saw a Dendrobium (it got a cane that looks like a Dendrobium) with terete leaves. Google turned out Dendrobium junceum, was that right? There was no flower so I have no way to verify it.

I am sorry. I forgot about D. papillio and D. aurantiacum until I was watering them tonight. I think D. papillio needs the cooler temperatures of the mountains to survive, but D. aurantiacum is doing well in Manila, along with D. junceum and D. polytrichum.

Den papillo??

NTG, I saw a plant the other day, strange looking plant, grow like a creeper, round mottled leaves (mottled, think Onc.papillo). Label says, Dendrobium papillo. Is the label correct? I think it got tiny flowers but wasn't able to see the details because once again, I forgot to bring my "magnifying glass". Very neat looking plant even w/o flowers.

If yours is in bloom now, please can you share us the photo?

No Den papillo in Jay's site...I checked!

Lovely flowers on that Dendrobium... is this the same plant that they call the rain or storm orchid? You know the one that opens it's flowers just before the rain comes and only lasts a day or two...

Also, the Australian terete dendrobiums have been moved to the Genus "Dockrilla".. I wonder if they will move these to that as well...

Tim, I think you are referring to Dendrobium crumenatum, the pigeon orchid. Blooms open for a day, approximately nine days after a heavy downpour.

Tanya, my Dendrobium papillio is 99% dead.

Below is a pic of my Dendrobium junceum, instead. I am sorry, I have no photograph that depicts the terete leaves.

I think there is another one Dendrobium philippinense?

The leaves are similar with the junceum types but much smaller. I have this plant for several years until it died.
