Never grown one myself but as Eric mentioned -- you got a while to wait. You've seen how large the flowers are, yes? And considering most orchids seem to take their sweet time fattening a bud up, you can bet this little bud is going to be quite a while growing.

I can understand that and not like it at the same time, right?

I stopped using it this year. Only the european MSU equivalent.

I saw your plant and renewed my search for my Sesquipedale. I'd bought one a couple years ago that was a seedling, and a very small one at that. It didn't live long, but i'm hoping with my improved growing skills and greenhouse this one will make it. Thanks for the inspiration...just so happens I finally found an adult plant in bud. We both will get to enjoy Christmas with our "Darwin's Orchid". Does yours have the spur yet? And I have heard the MSU fertilizer can cause problems in Cattleya. It was in a recent post on here. Someone had a cattleya without a lip and another member stated they had that problem until they stopped using this fertilizer. I've never used it...this is just what i'd heard.

Sure you can.
I never really believed in the need for bloom-booster fertilizer. My bottles were empty and as many friends, I turned to this new fertilizer available in Europe.

And I have heard the MSU fertilizer can cause problems in Cattleya. It was in a recent post on here. Someone had a cattleya without a lip and another member stated they had that problem until they stopped using this fertilizer. I've never used it...this is just what i'd heard.

I did'nt heard about that with MSU fertilizer. My friend Denis who has more than 1,000 Cattleya (almost exclusively species), uses the MSU type fertilizer since 2 years without any problem.
By cons, such problems with flowers are described when using Superthrive or some pesticides such as thiamethoxam... I read it several times and I think it's true from my own experience.
