Tropical Storm Isaac

Well I hope all those that are about to get the bad weather are prepared and safe. The orchids have weathered centuries of storms and they come back, God only made one of you so don't risk unnecessary harm to save what can be replaced. We here in Barbados are just getting the rain right now but there is possibility of flooding in some areas. I hope all those that are in T&T dealing with all the bad flooding are safe and sound.

We've had days and days of rain, and each day it seems to last a little longer. May have to start thinking about bringing some of the potted plants into the garage if it keeps up. I know the mounts should be fine. Hope everyone stays safe, snug and dry.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes! The storm is quite disorganized and has not yet become a hurricaine. Thunderstorms and wind gusts have started, but are not bad. The 11 pm and 5 am bulletins are decisive for us here, because the info will be more precise about what we will be getting. People are worried mainly about the rain and the flooding. I don't have this problem where I live, but many fellow Puerto Ricans do. Shelters are already open.

@ Nat, Cathy, Jeff, all Floridians, and any other members up the Chain North of me I pray for your safety, and that somehow the Storm might dissipate before it reaches you.
The storm passed to the North of my island on Tuesday, from 2pm on Wed. and through the entire night and into today the heavy rain and some strong gusts presisted. The rain stopped, or became a drizzle, around 3pm, but the skies remain quite dark.
Thankfully no harm to my plants, but the work begins tomorrow, if no more rain I will be out there applying fungicides to ward off rot and fungus.
Stay safe everyone, and I pray that when you report next you will have good news.

Oh, dear. I'm grateful not to be in Puerto Rico just yet, but I'm praying all of you in Isaac's path will suffer minimum damage - and stay safe. We're not worried about losing your orchids: we're worried about losing YOU! Please go somewhere safe if the local authorities are advising it.

Carmen - that's a scary forecast - I'll pray for your safety especially.

Friends, the storm was not as bad as expected. Isaac is past us, but the skies are still dark and we have had rain for three days now. No flooding, There was some wind damage in the southern part of the island, but nothing as bad as expected. Finally Isaac passed about 60 miles to the south, so it did not hit Puerto Rico directly. That was good. It could have been worse. In some sense, tropical weather is unpredictable, so you never "really" know. These things sometimes change at the last minute! The hurracaine season is at is peak, so we still have about two more months to go. We will probably be getting some more of this. Tropical storms and hurracaines that pass near enough to scare us, but not near enough to really hurt us. Every year is the same. We haven't had a direct hit for a long time now, thank God. The country began getting back to normal today. Thanks everyone for caring!
