Are there any trees, shrubs, or overhangs obstructing/screening out/filtering the sunlight in that 8x8 area, Trixie?
If not, there are catts and dens that would likely do well with those light levels if in close proximity to the windows. Depending on your home's winter humidity, I believe you will likely still require weekly watering. Some of the more heat loving orchids may not grow much or bloom for you over the winter but there are many intermediate to warm growers that I would expect to do well for you. What will your home's winter night temps be?
