Nicely grown. I overheard an interesting argument between 2 orchid vendors at the last show I went to, regarding whether Sharry Baby really is chocolate-scented, or have people simply bought into the suggestion. I've smelled some that were more purplish-bloomed than yours, Ron that had a scent I actually prefer to chocolate - can't describe it, of course....

Some find the scent to be more of a vanilla aroma. But as with anything as subjective as smell, there can be quite some leeway.

Typically during active growth, lots of sun, lots of water, and fertilize heavily. During the cooler, drearier days of winter (for those who experience such), light as bright as you can manage, cut way back on the water and fertilize little if at all. Many folks find it beneficial to give it a watering with epsom salt solution in the fall. (Think the ratio for that, if I recall, was one tablespoon per gallon of water. And my apologies ... I don't remember the metric equivalents.)

Oh, can you tell me what sort of temperatures they like? I might put it outside this summer, but it does get really hot (over 100 degrees F) during the day and cool at night (60 ish). Otherwise I'll keep it in the air conditioning. Do you let it dry out between watering in the growing season?

The spikes are not staked

Ah "Stinky Baby", LOL! A number of my friends in my old os referred to all Sharry Babies as such. One well blooming plant either outdoors or in a large well ventilated space is fine. However, if one is driving an hour or more to a winter show with the same large well blooming plant in a car/SUV/van? Then, as my friends opined, the fragrance quickly becomes overpowering -- and not in anything close to a good way... not unlike being stuck in an elevator with several people who are wearing far far too much perfume/colonge.

Nice looking plant there, Ron! You mentioned the spikes not being "spindly" ... so does this mean you did not need to stake the spikes?

It get's morning sun when outdoors. and in front of a west facing glass door for the winter. I do keep it moist during the growing season and drier in the winter. I allow it to approach dry before watering. My temps can go up to 100 F in summer but those temps are not norm I allow it to get down to 60F in the winter

We saw Sharry Baby at a nursery and I was so glad to get one, even though its not blooming or in spike, its a nice plant and should do fine. I can't wait to see it bloom! Oh, I'm SO excited, going to an Orchid Show in Spokane next weekend! I've got a little put aside for fun things, so I'm hoping for fancy new orchids!
