Stunning iris.

My grandmother grew a lot of irises, I particularly remember the Siberian Iris. Once she gave us some divisions of Bearded Iris and we planted an Iris bed. It was successful for a few years until it became infested with Iris borers. I remember trying to dig the fat white grubs out of the rhizomes. yuk! They are still one of my favorite perennial flowers, and fortunately I have not seen another Iris borer in many years.

They need a lot of work to keep them good - worse than orchids! I lift, divide, and dispose of the old parts of the rhizome every two years. This has to be done immediatly after flowering for best results, so it is a worry replanting in july, when probably the ground is very dry. But worth it when I see the flowers next year.
