Spike or Root on Aerides lawrenceae

I recently read an orchid saying, it goes something like this (I know I'm going to mangle the original, but you'll get the idea):
'Grow the roots and the orchid will follow.'

Yes, it is a root and it is getting long and thick. It seems to be happy.

That's good to hear, Mary. The lawrenciae is a native of my island and it is my favorite orchid. I hope you get double spikes as it usually produces double spikes and lots of fragrant flowers. You mentioned a description on the tag. You can check out my thread on the lawrenciae and see if it matches the flowers.

It is still putting on new roots. I don't actually know if it is big enough or old enough to bloom yet.

Yours looks like it's still a young plant. Perhaps in a year.

Yes, it is still young. I am in awe of the large ones with long roots. I have purchased a couple of supposed big ones from an online auction, we will see what I get what I open the boxes!
