I guess I'm asking Yew-Sung (Catttan). When you say that Aerides odorata is easy to culture because its endemic to your area, does that mean that it likes very warm and humid climate, maybe more than the others? I'm trying to 'calibrate' my next Aerides acquirement based on the climate that we have in Baltimore. I like Aerides so much that I want to make sure they like what I can offer.

Aerides odorata and Rhyncostylis retusa grow wild here - roadside trees and old established trees around housing estates usually have colonies of odorata and Den crumenatum together with Cym finlaysonianum growing on their branches. As to our climate here : hot all year round, 23-28 C night temps and 30-38C day temps; precipitation 100-120 inches a year; in the north-west where I live we have a short 'winter' from Dec to Feb where night temp can be .22C and day temps 30-32C but importantly for certain orchids these months are dry with almost no rainfall. Humidity is normally 80-100 percent year round.

High temp and copious watering from spring to autumn and reduced watering with lower temp in winter about 15-20C would suit the majority of Aerides.
