Yeah, a bit nervous! This is my birthday orchid from last September. It apparently loves where it is!

I would place the stake closer to the spike say between the petiole of the leaf above the spike. Thus making it easy to train up. In your pic the stake is too far for the spike to be trained by the time it gets long enough to reach there the spike woul already harden making it prone to snapping. Yes the spike follows light source but i find once its trained up a spike it makes no difference it just follows the stake up.
