Anyone tried the "new" LED plant lights

Very nice post, Roberto,

But I don't see any discussion on the wavelengths best suited for plants. The color spectrum would be the most critical issue for indoor lighting, I would think.

Of course I don't grow under lights so this isn't an area I know much about, but I'm sure the correct wavelengths would be important.

To the best of my knowledge, which honestly doesn't say much, the jury is still out on which wavelengths are best. One camp claims that matching the lamps output to the absorption spectra of chlorophyll pigments most effectively delivers energy to the plant. Another camp feels matching the emission spectrum of the sun is best for overall plant growth. I tend to agree with the latter.

These lights are soo new that there does not really seem to be much info arround? They are popping up everywhere, why just the other day when I went to pick up my new 2006 Lexus LX 470, I realized that each tail light is made up of 40 led lights. Hope those suckers never need changing!

Getting back to the grow lights..... the site I was looking at has lights that are made up of about 30 LEDs of different colors... Red, Orange, Yellow, Pinkish, and Blue. Still very tempted to try one... But $$$$$$$

A question, too, is how intense is the light produced and how long does an LED maintain/retain that intensity?

The ones I looked at are rated for 100,000 hours, the vendor guarantees them to remain full speed for 50,000 hours. Now for intensity we get into the whole footcandle, lumens, etc. thingy which I'm not an expert on.. I'll check back on the site.
