The one complaint I do have about BB is how short lived the blooms are -- at least for me. 2 weeks is the longest I've ever had the flowers last. My other catts have a bloomlife that is 2 to 3X that.

Really? Interesting. Mine seem to hang in there for at least 3 to 4 weeks. Probably a difference in cultivar or conditions.....
Hmmm. Maybe it's a cultivar thing. Talked to a vender [who has the same clonal variety as I do] at a show & they said theirs last about as long as mine -- definitely not 4 weeks. Mine is Burana Beauty 'Burana'. Either way it is disappointing as the flowers have such a rich coloration.Originally Posted by Diane

Try more frequent waterings while the plant is spiking until it finishes blooming. I've dramatically increased bloom times with more water. The plant needs it while it's trying to support all the super-structure of blossoms (essentially hydraulic pressure, and you have to keep the pressure up), and the flowers themselves. Normal water levels aren't sufficient, and many plants will terminate the blooms if there's insufficient water. More water = longer blooms (sometimes.) Plants will also set fewer spikes and buds if optimal water isn't availbable.
Don't rot them, but err on the side of more frequent watering and you should see more flowers that are longer lasting.

Not to steal your post, but just as an aside...this plant was a big box save for me and loves s/h. (Sunburn was THEIR fault not mine...got this little guy two years ago sitting outside in July in not a very protected position)

I also forgot to add the for the last five flowerings for me, they've lasted three weeks to the DAY each time in my conditions...strange..for me it's as if there is a clock in this one![]()
I guess I'll have to time mine this blooming to see what the span really is..
