LOL, I've just had both experiences mentioned here... ie handcarried plants and plants shipped to me.... and what you have all said is pretty spot on!!!

big plants for shipping and little plants hand carry!

I do not recomend shipping in July because of the extreme heat. The parcels actually get baked and even shipping in winter was safer because of the heat packs. I had a plant die in july and I've never had a problem with shipping in the Canadian winters. Just make sure there are no postal delays.

Also make sure the plant does not fall out of the pot!! It happened once to me and the phal volcea got dehydrated. It died in the end.

Hello, I'm from Canada, but I am currently living in Indonesia for 10 months. I would like to know the process of getting orchids across the borders with no problems. There are so many orchids and other plants I would like to take with me when I leave to go back to Canada July 8th, 2013. If you could tell me anything that would be great! Thank you!

i have had some problems with orchids rotting in the mail. i always ask the vendor to send them dry, and by priority mail. one thing i like is when sellers send them in the pot filled with bark, and they use painter's tape to hold the bark into the pot, so it does not spill all over the place and harm the roots. if you can hold the media in place with tape, there will be less damage to the sensitive roots during shipping. then wrap it up in paper and follow the instructions above. i have gotten most of my collection online. even had a tolumnia mailed to me from france, all the way to california.
