Repotted this morning. Two different plants. Which one is May Neal 'Uraiwan' ? Ahhh.!!! While writing this post I ran some more searches and think this name tag may be miss-written. I have found two different sites that list the yellow bloom with the red throat and lip as either May Neal x Uraiwan or May Neal - Uraiwan. The pics couldn't be more conclusive as to which plant those vendors would ID as May Neal Uraiwan.
Now as for the pretty red dend. with yellow margins, would anyone dispute my id of the infamous Japanese/French hybrid cultvar Den. Noname x Perplexica 'du jour'.
The old potting medium was large solid blocks of some kind of quite rotted wood. I soaked it for about three hours and started removing it. No go. I exposed some of the roots but broke off more than I freed by far. I dusted with a little rooting hormone and potted it up in some fine bark medium. I'll keep an eye out for rot (Any hints what to look for?) and have another go at the wood blocks next year.
I have cut the flowers for a small vase. When all the leaves fell off and Murray put the fear of a dying plant into me I thought it better to not wait and take chances. I waited three years for this blooming. Maybe I can bring it along faster this time.
