Nooow just to dig up this old thread...

I don't know how this escaped me until now - but the developing second spike is coming from a growth that is very much unlike the one holding a flower. As you can see from the pictures, the leaves on the growth with the new spike has much darker veining comparred to the one holding the flower. Furthermore the leaves with the dark veins has a very sandpaperish surface, where the lighter one is all smooth.

Did I just get lucky here - buying a pot where the grower had put in two different plants? Or can this just be variations? I guess I'll know for sure when the flower opens - but I'm just to damn curious

Seems like you've got yourself two different plants.

The intensity of the green may change depending on light, but the mottling should be fairly consistent.

So, you might still get your callosum 'Jac' flower!

that flower is superb!!! Really nice colour and very symmetrical shape!

bummer about the hwole name thing, but when you're looking at it and enjoying the flower, who really needs a name (well, maybe me who would like one of those!)

Your second plant looks to be a sukhakulii hybrid and a lovely vinicolor-type to boot. What a great deal! In regards to your first, google search Paph. Schaetzchen...it is charlesworthii X Maudiae. Pics I've seen look very much like your mystery.

Funny, I bought three orchids at a local store that seemed to have two plants in the same pot. One was a phal...when it opened I had a yellow and a pink! The other was in bloom when purchased and was a Odcdm Wildcat 'Yellow Butterfly'...when the 'second' plant opened it was a Degarmoara Winter Wonderland! Now I have a Odcdm Jungle Monarch which has a 'second' plant but it hasn't bloomed yet...goodness knows what it will end up being. Great deals all around!

Well this one was sold at the same price as all the rest.. I really think it's weird - it would be easier to understand if it was two of the same plants in one pot... Either the growers employ really stupid people (our luck..) or they do it intentionally just to get people wondering.. In any case it's lovely to get such a duo-pack ordchid!

I'll post another picture in a week or so when it is fully grown - maybe it'll be easier to put a name on then!

They are both fantastic blooms. I might like the second one a little bit more than the first, but not by much.

I like them both.
The first one is driving me crazy. I see a paph charlesworthii in the bloom, but the leaves keep saying maudiae. It's messing up my mind and it caught my attention when I first saw it.
The red in the second one stands out quite nicely.
