It was a keiki, the mother is an old plant 15 years plus . I will take a picture of it and post it here .
It is not a huge plant but not little either .
Took me a heck of a lot longer to bloom it than the one BD. has Gin

Well, that is why it bloomed!! I thought it was a seedling and when it put up a tiny little spike, I though these things must really be easy to bloom. The bloom is as big as one of the leaves. I love the color though. And of course I love it even more knowing that a friend sent it to me.

Yup, it's the same.

Here's what Eric Christenson has to say about the species:

"Phal. pulchra produces two kinds of inflorescences: very long ones to more than a meter in length, and very short ones much shorter than the leaves. The long inflorescences sometimes flower, but more frequently they do not flower, but produce keikis. These keikis typically flower with short inflorescences. The only other species of Phalaenopsis that consistently produces keikis is Phal. equestris. In most other species of Phals, the production of keikis from the inflorescence nodes is an incidental event."

You might do better to keep a keiki for yourself, Gin.

Don't need one, mama spikes and blooms every year on the end of the spike then makes the keikis , I did keep one from last year just in case ma bites the dust .Gin

That is a deep, rich color. Who says you have to get a hybrid to get decent color!!!!

I have picked up a few species phals recently that are smallish. The virdis I have appears to be NBS and has a leaf spread of maybe 5 inches. Yours gives me hopes that it may flower soon too.

sorry about not saying something for a while but i've been quite busy lately.
I take this chance to tell you that this is one of my favourite Phal.. it's so amazingly beautiful and with such strong and waxy fower... wow, really like it. And still so small : ) really lovely. Congrat.
