The alba is a recessive trait and is subordinate to the natural form. Recessive traits only exibit when matched with the same recessive trait as a pair. (I spent a LOT of time discussing this stuff while I was breeding leopard geckos!!!)

The Punnett Square looks like this:

N = Natural
A = Alba (recessive)

N..NN....NA
A..NA....AA

NN = Natural form, no recessive genes
NA = Natrual form, alba gene carried but not expressed
AA = Alba form expressed

Soooooo, theoretically 75 % of the offspring should express the natural form and 25% should express the alba trait.

There is a 67% chance that the natural forms will carry the alba gene.

You can use this template for any single recessive trait. I was breeding leopard geckos with double recessive traits trying to get both recessives to express in a single animal!!! Quite the challenge.

Repot now, Steven - that's a crowded compot with big seedlings!

They can go into small pots individually at this point, and they'll do fine. Just ease the light levels up gently. They'll be a bit stressed after potting out of compot. But if you hold them any longer, you'll have an interwoven root mat that's hard to untangle without breaking roots.

What size pot would you use for them? I don't want ALL the energy to go into root production!!!!! I was actually thinking about doing 3-5 per pot like a mini-compot of spicerianum I got.

That is a SERIOUS compot with seedlings in serious need of their own pot.

I say there are 22 plants with 5 albas. So does the winner get the jar of jelly beans?

I just a guessed exactly the same thing as Bruce -- great minds think alike. Sorry--. So I'll change my overall guess to 23, with five alba.

Those guys look pretty big. You can go 3" round clay or square plastic, or better yet, 2.5" round clay, if you can find them. My seedlings love clay and I have a bit more damping off trouble in plastic.

Keep the light lower until they're a lot bigger.

Gin, I think it is genetics in general.

I just measured the leaf span on a couple of the larger ones: 6"!!!! some with 4 and 5 sets of leaves on them already!

I wonder if the clay allows better wet/dry cycles and wicks away excess moisture is why?

I'll go a little higher than the others since in my experience you always have smaller guys that are hiding under the big ones...I'm going to say 30 so, for albas...umm, less'say 7 (now that is just a guess)
