Thanks for the support everyone... and it's one of those things that happen I guess... one of the judges is a cymbidium grower, the other a Phalaenopsis grower and the third... hmm, not sure what he grows... but during their judging, I heard one of them say, that the flower was no good because of the recurved dorsal.... but I was of the impression that a fully opened flower of this species has that characteristic...

anyways... this is one of the easier species to grow and the flower is as big as the plant! Low light and hardly requires any attention at all...

they didn't like the recurved dorsal? spoken like a true judge, albeit an uninformed one! there is no such thing as a purpuratum with a flat dorsal. and if there were, it might be in line for a high award, but in my book purpuratum should be recurved. there was a spicerianum with a pretty flat dorsal that got an AM or FCC from the AOS; to most people that diminishes the species' 'charm'.

Nice form and a GREAT NAME!!!! I have not named any of my species plants yet. Maybe some day I will do that.
