I buy them all year long, though I do see more in the stores during the warmer months. I have bought orchids during winter...just need to be extra careful when handling them because of the dreaded bud blast (or worse).

I live in 4 seasons. I try very hard to resist the urge to buy in the dead of winter, but it can be tough! If I do make a purchace, I make sure I have a brown bag to but the plant in, and rebag it with plastic over it. A little insulation never hurt.

I don't have the best growing conditions, so I don't buy in late autumn to mid winter except for ones that I know I can grow. The others need all the help they can get to adjust from gh/perfect weather to my conditions.... The winter is especially bad because the humidity plummets.
