We used to have brown colored ones around here too.

I am not totally certain, but I think they can change color to match the environment.I think that because when I see green ones they are on green grass and when I see brown ones it is on plants that are more brown. Just a guess.

It is amazing that they not only make themselves look like leaves, but damaged, bruised leaves!!! Now THAT is adaption.

Wow. Knew that there were insects that looked like leaves and such, but I've never seen one that looks like a flower. That is sooo cool. I want some!!

To illustrate how large a praying mantis can get, I saw one on biology camp that was about a foot long. It kept on flying around us while we were busy with a game of scrabble, and it kept on eluding being photographed next to something that would show its size
