Oncidium / Trichocentrum Serevent
This orchid was once referred to as a mule-eared Oncidium or thick leaved oncidium, but I think taxonomists have now moved this genus to Trichocentrum. Many years ago mule-eared oncidiums were very popular in Malaysia and Singapore and many were seen at shows throughout the country but sadly not many people grow them today. I used have a few lanceanum,haematochilum, a Dr Schragen and a Mem Pepita de Restrepo. Recently I was shown an Onc Serevent (Noorah x haematochilum ) and after much arm twisting, managed to pry one off from a very good friend. Normally this plant produces a long spike with a few side baranches, but a little caterpillar got to the spike before it was detected and this 1 foot stump is all I could save. However I thought it I would still like to share it on OTF since there have not been many posts on the mule-eared oncidiums. (recently there was one on Onc carthagense).
In Pix 2 one can see the white streaks on the spike and the scar on the leaf to the right of the flower spike, caused by the small caterpillar.
