wow would love to have vanda Amy, those are beautiful. I have 2 terete vandas I'm growing in full sun, I bought 1 a few months ago and received it bareroot, I staked it in a pot of charcoal and sponge rock and placed it in a high shade area ,watered it 2x a day, when I saw new roots I slowly moved it to brighter light. Mine love water never can seem to give too much, and fertilizer. When it gets too tall I'll trade you a cutting, haha. I also have the coconut orchid, easy one bright light, if it's dry can take temps in low 50's and high 40's, it is not very fussy. I have yet to attend Redlands, I seem to miss it every year.

I'm glad to hear the coconut orchid is easy to grow down here; it might be my favorite right now. Love the smell, the flowers, the overall shape of the plant.

Okay - I'm just plain jealous. I do have a Max. tenuifolia, though, and it seems to be pretty unfussy - I've grown it on the windowsill, the deck during the warmer weather, and in a local greenhouse among the Catts. when I was away - and it bloomed more this year than ever.

Hi Susie, growing outdoors is definently in the 'plus' column for south Florida.
I have had 12 inches of rain in my yard over the last two weeks with more on the way tomorrow, but the 'chids so far are all growing new leaves and roots. A few are blooming; theme seems to be purple today.Name: PurpleJune2013.jpg
