Hi all.
I thought you might be interested in these photos I took yesterday.
An elderley local orchid icon (96years old) whom I haven't visited for ages was home and let me in to take these.
His collection spans 7 g/houses and would probably total 5,000+ orchids.
Sadly he is unable to care for them much now which annoys him no end.
His memory of all the names was astonishing.
Walking through one of the old vanda houses is like being somewhere prehistoric.
I am sorry the shots are not better but he was getting a bit cranky at their sorry state and i didn't like to intrude further.
Maybe later.
John
Lovely. Hope he has provided for them in his will!
Those plants are fantastic. I only wish you could have taken more photos. Maybe you could try again if you can catch him in a better mood. Possible just after his nap......
Must have been nice to hear all of his stories about his orchids. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
BD
It's like a room full of roots.
Wow, that is really cool. The legacy there is incredible.
Wonderful, John! As BD said, he must have some wonderful stories about his orchids. How nice of him to let you into his life and his greenhouse. We can learn so much from people like him. Nice pics, too.

Hi All.
Thanks for your comments.I have since noticed his daughter at the house feeding the orchids. As soon as it stops raining (3 months now and sick of it) I will go and talk to her about more photos. She is a retired local schoolteacher whom I know pretty well.I don't think I will go for anymore stories but fingers crossed for more pics as there were a lot in flower (some a bit chewed but all spectacular).
John
nice rootage! Very pretty vanda. I'm glad his daughter is helping to care for his plants.
