New plant and New to Growing

Hi My name is David Hilborn, I am a 22 year old artist who lives in Phoenix, Arizona. I have been fascinated with orchids since I watched the movie adaptation. I was recently shopping and I can came across this amazing orchid. I have always wanted to get into the growing and caring for one of these beautiful plants, but when I saw this one I knew I was ready to take on the challenge. The only thing is is that it didn't have any information on it besides a price.. which trust me at the time did not matter.


I was wondering if I can have some help identifying the plant properly and I would love to know any tips on care for it.

So far
-I think its a Mtssa. Shelob “Tolkien”
-I have given it a bath for about a half hour cause it was a bit droopy from being tampered with in the market.
-I put a little sprinkle of coffee ground in the soil for a to spoil it...: /
-I think it may need to be repotted soon cause the roots are awefully close to the edges of the container. (will post more pictures later)
-I Have wiped Her Leaves with a mild solution of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water...and spoke softly to it.....haha

Your plant is most likely Odontobrassia Kenneth Bivens...

Clint is right on with the id of your plant. And a lovely one it is too. Welcome to the forum.
If I were you I would Google Odontacidum and Brassia culture and see what you come up with. As far as repotting be aware that you will probably lose any blooms you have on the plant when you repot. However that's a small price to pay. Growers most often pot orchids with lots of sphag packed around the roots and that's not a good thing. You will want to examine the roots carefully and prune any dead or rotting ones and get rid of all the old potting media and repot in orchid bark available at your local home imp. store. Follow the culture sheets you find on the web and you'll be good to go!

Thank you for the responses. I appreciate the clarification of the plant id, it would help if I got the right plant so I can find out its care haha

as for waterings i have hear everything from every two days with misting from soaking it ever week. Whats the general consensus?

Once a week should be ok. I know you have 0% humidity out there so you might want to invest in a humidifier, available at you local big box store. You will need to get your chid on a fertilizer schedule also. Weekly/weakly with 1/4 the amt. recommended. I use a fertilizer made especially for orchids with no urea in it and alternate it with a bloom booster also no urea. That shoul do it. Kenneth Bivens is fairly easy to grow. I would let it dry out slightly between waterings...only slightly. Don't mist...that can lead to more problems than it's worth.
