The trout lily (Erythronium americanum ) starts to open in the upright position and then takes this nodding stance. It closes at night and is pollinated by ants.
the seed from it can take 7 years from seed to blooming. Once the plant develops it's second leaf, then it is ready to bloom. It stands about about 7-8" tall.

The Pulmonaria (lungwort) do look similar to Primrose but are in the Borage family and are native to Europe and Western Asia

Many of the Pulmonaria have purple flowers that change to pink, with age. Most also have silver spotted leaves. I have one that has the prettiest of deep blue flowers

Seven years!?! Sounds like an orchid! hehehe... I think I will keep buying the lilies that are already mature and ready to bloom.

My lenton rose always dies in the last snow/frost of the season. Each year, it grows back, raising my hopes that next spring I will see it bloom, only to have those hopes dashed down just as the daffadils start to bloom!

I wonder why that happens. These always open for me just a tad prior to the daffodils. I have a few clumps of them. The prior year's leaves stay throughout the winter and will die once replaced with new leaves after the plant blooms.

I love the varigated leaves on the trout lily. We don't have those in our neck of the woods, but the Bluebonnets are goin' nuts!

I have a small but growing collection of hellebores. I have some really dark ones which should flower next year.

Judi, I like dark ones but my other one is all cream colored without markings. I was hoping for a dark one.
